Obituary: Los Angeles Times, 6/4/2015Bry Thorne passed away on May, 30, 2015 at the age of 88. He went peacefully surrounded by family.

Born in Bangor, Maine in 1926 to parents Howard and Louise Thorne, Bry was the third of seven children. In 1931, they moved to Los Angeles.

A celebrated track and football player, as well as Senior Class President, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944 and then enlisted is the US Navy to serve his country during WWII as a Boatswains mate on the USS Kingsbury. After the war, he worked for the Southern California Edison Company in Construction Field Forces for 41 years. His primary responsibility was the construction of transmission lines throughout Southern California. While working out of town, he studied at night in his hotel room to earn his degree.

In the late 1970's, he started running, joined the Foothill flyers, ran local races and eventually marathons including Boston.

After retirement, he joined the Screen Actors Guild and made over 30 commercials. He was a life-long member of the American Legion and was the Commander of Edison Post 431 at the time of his passing. An avid USC Trojan fan, he could be found at all home games in the Los Angeles Coliseum.

He was a long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena.

He is survived by his adoring daughter Patricia Thorne Martin (Michael) and his beloved granddaughter, Claire Louise, and many adored family members and friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, connectivity, and curiosity.

Services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:00AM at the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, followed by interment at Live Oak Cemetery in Monrovia. Reception to follow at the Doubletree Hotel in Monrovia.
