JD Slaton was born to John Arnold Slaton and Annie D. Roe Slaton, their last child and only son together. JD's four sisters were; Dorothy Estene, Willie Lorene, Dorris Cleo, and Johnnie Mae.
His mother, Annie, died when JD was five years old. His father married a second time to Rue Burt, and had two more sons and two more daughters; Willis, John Jr., LaNeva, and Terrell Jean.
At the age of 18 JD joined the Army in 1943, and served in World War II in North Africa under General Patton.
After his military service, he met and married Inez Phillips on December 29, 1952. They had four children together; Theresa Ann, Jimmy Dee, Rebecca Kay, and Patti Lynn. They later divorced.
JD died July 6, 2001 in Poplar Bluff, MO.
