Albert J. Duff Jr., a Stoneham police officer and the town's safety officer, died of cancer Sunday at his home in Stoneham. He was 56. Mr. Duff had been a Stoneham police officer for 34 years. He held a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University and a master's degree in criminal justice from Anna Maria College. He was born in Stoneham and educated in public schools there. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1957, including a stint in Korea. Mr. Duff joined the Stoneham Police Department in 1958. In 1974 he became the town's safety officer, and was known as Officer Duff to countless Stoneham children.
