SCOTT CITY - Mrs. Mary Amanda Bain, who had served as coordinator for the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Center here for 12 years, died unexpectedly at 8:38 Sunday morning at her home. she was 59 years old.
Mrs. Bain had been active in community affairs here and in addition to her work with DAEOC, she was secretary of the Scott City Planning and Zoning Commission and a member of the Scott County Family Services Commission. She served as a member of the Bootheel Regional Health Center and was a past president and secretary of the Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Scott City. In 1975, Mrs. Bain was named Woman of the Year in Illmo-Scott City. Among her other activities, she worked closely with the senior citizen groups of the area.
Mrs. Bain, the former Miss Mary Amanda Schwartz, was born in Kelso on March 1, 1917, and was married to Wilburn Bain on April 11, 1937. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1967.
Surviving; a son, Charles R. Bain, Waterloo, Iowa; three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Margie) Stout, Kirkwood, Miss Karen Bain, at home and Mrs. Dale (Mary) Rogers, Scott City; brothers, Herman Schwartz, Benton, George Schwartz, Manchester and Frank Schwartz, Poplar Bluff; sisters, Mrs. Hubert Fish, Falls Church, Va. and Mrs. Agnes Hickson, Toledo, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Service will be at 10 Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the pastor, the Rev. Robert Schumacher officiating. Parish prayers will be said at 8:30 Tuesday night at the Amick-Burnette Funeral Home in Illmo. Friends may call after 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
