Paul grew up in Kentucky during the 1920's and graduated from Galax High School. During the 1930's he joined the US Army and served as a medic. He married Martha Louise Knight and had two children, Paul Jr. who died as an infant in 1940, and Patricia Sue of Bristol, TN. Paul and Martha divorced. He then married Ruth Trivett Bray and they remained together until his death in 1979. Paul served as a Co-Pilot of a B-17 bomber and flew 30 missions over Europe with many sorties as the lead aircraft. He was awarded several medals for his courage and bravery. See http://www.388bg.info/ for details of his service record. After WW2, Paul struggled with alcoholism to cope with Post Traumatic Stress disorder. Paul Michael was born in 1950, Thomas Nicholas in 1951, and George Franklin in 1956. Paul adopted Ruth's son Frederick Stephen. He worked for many years as an expert welder in Baltimore, MD and Savannah, GA and Alexandria, VA areas. Paul was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Paul was admitted to the US Army Veterans Hospital in Perry Point, MD and passed away there in August 1979. Paul was truly a WW2 hero and should have been buried in Arlington National Cemetery. However, it was my mother's wishes that they be buried together at Mount Comfort. -Written by Paul Michael Bray December 2013
