As an adult, Bud Jr's career in the film industry began in the late 1950s, when his father helped land him a job on the Universal lot as a film technician. During the early 1960s he segued to acting and appeared on several TV shows of the time, including "The Jack Benny Program" and "Bailey's of Balboa." By the end of the decade however, Abbott was back behind the camera and, after a short stint at Technicolor, settled at Hollywood Film Enterprises as an optical cameraman.
