Elizabeth Rose Abbitt, of San Diego, well known in the area as a folk art potter, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 22, 2015.

Liz was also an avid gardener, where she displayed much of her whimsical pottery at home tucked amid the flora to greet visitors at every turn. Her LizArt Pottery leaves a colorful legacy for her many friends, followers, and collectors.

Known for her neverending smile and sense of humor, she delighted in the lasting friendships she made during her career at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), as well as the dear friends she made at her pottery studio, Clay Associates of San Diego. Liz maintained ties with her three closest friends from childhood with whom she regularly traveled to Hawaii and abroad.

The bond she shared with her family was paramount in Liz's life and she journeyed back to Virginia for family gatherings and on more than one occasion to Europe with her three sisters.

Liz was born September 5, 1950 in Newport News, Virginia, the youngest daughter in a family of seven children to the late Andrew White Abbitt and Marion Lee Rose.

She is survived by her six siblings, William S. Abbitt (Priscilla), Sally A. Kennedy (Thomas), Ann D. Hohenberger and (Marvin), Merry A. Outlaw (Alain), Andrew W. Abbitt II, and James C. Abbitt (Karen); and large extended family.

A celebration of her life will be held in San Diego at Clay Associates, 3667 Adams Avenue, on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.
She will be interred in the family plot in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia.
