"WILLIAM LAUTEN---MADISON---William Carl Lauten, 85, of Route 4, Stoneville, died Wednesday at his home.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Madison United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
A native of Rockingham County, Lauten owned and operated Lauten Motor Company for 30 years and was a former member of the Madison City Board of Education, and a charter member of Madison Lions Club. At his church, he has been the Sunday school superintendant for the last 35 years. He was former chairman of the board and the building committee. He was a former Sunday school teacher, president of the Methodist Men, and a former district lay leader. He was a former member of the Board of Evangelism for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. A former chairman of the Northern Piedmont Area Development Association, Lauten was a former member of the Rockingham County 4H Board.
Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Martha Knight of Stoneville; brother Lee Lauten of Madison; sisters, Mrs. Ida Wall of Stoneville, Mrs. Martha Webster of Madison, Mrs. Eva Thiel of Burlington; three grandchildren.
The family will be at Ray Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions will be made to the memorial fund of his church or to the Western Rockingham Association of Retarded Citizens, c/o of Frances Joyce, Route 2, Box 166, Madison, N.C. 27025."
