Confederate Civil War Veteran. Melton served in Company A, 5th Tennesse Infantry Regiment. The 5th was organized in May of 1861, Paris Henry County TN. The 5th fought at the Battles of Shiloh, Perryville and Chickamauga. By the end of the war only a remnant of the 5th had survived.
