John returned to Scioto County, Ohio after the war. He married Alice Swim on Feb. 10, 1868 in Scioto Co., Ohio. Three children were born to this union. Their first born daughter, Annie died as a child of two years of age. The family later moved to Columbus, Ohio where he lived the remainder of his life.
As a veteran of the Civil War, he was a member of the J.C. McCoy Post #1 of the Grand Army of the Republic in Columbus, Ohio. John had enlisted in Co. A, 18th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry for 3 months service in 1861. He later volunteered and served in companies E and G, 2nd Regiment, West Virginia Cavalry for the duration of the Civil War. He was wounded in batlle, having been shot in the arm. We honor his service to our country.
At one time, John R. Morford was listed as a dentist in a Columbus, Ohio city directory. The family home was noted to be on West State St., in Columbus at one time.
John suffered from a debilitating disease of the eyes which left him nearly blind for several years prior to his passing at the age of 49. He was survived by his wife Alice, son Russell and daughter Sarah.
