Frank Grett was born on November 14, 1902 to Mary Rice and Elmer Grett. He had 3 sisters and 8 brothers. He only had an eighth grade education. He attended ninth grade but dropped out after football season. He worked at many different jobs from Kansas to California including a dockworker in San Diego which his wife never knew for many years. He married Hilda Ukens on May 21, 1928 at the Trinity Parsonage in Hudson Kansas. He spent his honeymoon at the home of his parents in Brandon Colorado, later settling down in Newton Kansas where he was employed with Santa Fe Railways. He later moved to Wichita building box cars and refrigerator cars. He was a shop rep for the union for some time. He retired in 1968.
He loved baseball and always watched his favorite team, the New York Yankees, on tv saturday afternoons. He was on a bowling league for many years and won several trophies.
He had 3 daughters: Nadine Martha Hawkins 1930-1968, Janet Maxine Woods 1937-2014, and Nila June Rogers 1940-1995. and 7 grandchildren: Timothy Hawkins, Jana Hawkins Comyford, Leonard Woods, Bryan Rogers, Tamara Rogers Johns, Todd Rogers, and Joyce Woods Pallas. He died in August 1982 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita Kansas of complications from emphysema.
