"Leona "Lee" K. (nee Kalinowski) Ahrens, 98 of Willowick, passed away Saturday June 6, 2015 at Mt. St. Joseph Nursing Home.
Born April 12, 1917 in Horning, PA., she was the youngest of 15 siblings. She lived in Cleveland before moving to Willowick in 1961.
Leona was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Parish for over 50 years. She very much loved her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the Lord and enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards, baking, crossword puzzles and the Cleveland Indians. There will be an ongoing pinochle game in the sky.
She formerly worked for the Bureau of Unemployment where she met her husband. Later she worked at Cleveland Shopping News, worked 20 years for Glenville YMCA in Cleveland, and retired from Huron Road Hospital as Secretary of Nursing.
Survivors are her loving daughter Diana; grandchildren, Eric and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Eric II, Natalie and Patrick "PJ" Sheehan.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Herbert; son-in-law, Gary R. Hiser; parents, Stella (nee Jancezewski) and Joseph Kalinowski; brothers, Ben, Joe, Stephen, Harry, Paul and Albin; sisters, Pearl Kaluba, Kathryn Wysoszinski, Henrietta Kaluba, Lucy Karleski, Regina Fisher; and three infants.
Funeral mass will be held Friday June 12, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine St. in Willowick.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday June 12, at Jack Monreal – Coyne Funeral Home, 31925 Vine St. in Willowick. Burial will be held Saturday June 13, at Crown Hill Cemetery. Family and friends to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m."
