Bennie D. Brewton Sr., 77, of Dahlonega died Thursday at his residence following a short illness.
Born in Floyd County to the late Herbert Henry Brewton and Elsie Mae Sharpe Brewton, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a retired maintenance worker with the City of Roswell and was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Cherokee County.
He also was preceded in death by his son, Bennie Brewton Jr.; daughter, Alice Brewton; brothers, Herbert Henry Brewton Jr. and Roger Brewton; and sisters, Delores Statham and Margaret Riddle.
Survivors include his wife, LaDonna Brewton, Dahlonega; son, Danny Brewton, Dawsonville; daughters, Sheila Correll, Dahlonega and Michele Lee and Melody Ingram, both of Cumming; sister, Katherine Smallwood, Rome; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and all day Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2007, at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Cherokee County. The Rev. Todd McGee and the Rev. Bobby Pierce will officiate. Burial will be in Alpharetta City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.
