Marvel Hokom
Marvel Hokom, 86, of Caldwell, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at a Caldwell hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 19, at the Caldwell Salvation Army Chapel, 1015 E. Chicago St., Caldwell.
Interment will be at 1 p.m Monday, June 21, 2010 at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell under direction of the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Viewing for friends will be held at The Salvation Army Chapel on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Hokom was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Riverdale, Neb. to John R. and Nellie M. Doremus Schroeder. She was raised in Nebraska and Colorado, moving to Idaho in 1939.
She met Oliver Hokom and they were married in Emmett in 1942.
Marvel had numerous jobs throughout her lifetime and retired as manager at The Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Marvel's priorities in her life were God and family.
She was a faithful member of the Salvation Army for 60 years, taught Sunday school, led women's groups and assisted in the Christmas effort.
In addition, she made visitations to nursing homes where she helped to made lap robes and plastic canvas bookmarks.
Marvel was a great cook and was happiest when entertaining family and friends in her home. She handmade and embroidered numerous quilts which she shared with family. Marvel was a volunteer at the Caldwell Senior Center for 12 years.
Surviving family include her children, Marie (Dennis) Loon; Shirley (John) Erskine, Eda Hokom, John (Peggy) Hokom and Peggy (Mark) Williams; her brother, Fred Schroeder of Caldwell; 11 grandkids, 16 great-grandkids ; two greatgreat-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Oliver , a grandson, Greg Williams and a sister, Erma Hatcher.
The family suggests memorial contributions to The Salvation Army or the Caldwell Senior Center.
