George Merrick Callahan, son of James F. Callahan and Mary Elizabeth Merrick Callahan, was born in New Haven May 7, 1903. He was one of the family's ten children. George retired in 1969 as a clerk at the US Post Office in New Haven. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

George was a parishioner of the St. Francis Church, a member of the American Legion Philip J. Brady Post 107 in New Haven, the Maples Athletic Association of Fair Haven and the New Haven Federal Retirees Association.
