Services for Kathryn T. Schmitt, 81, of Caldwell, who died Sunday, Dec. 16, in a Caldwell nursing home, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
The Rev. David Quail of Grace Lutheran Church, Caldwell, will officiate. Interment will follow in Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
Mrs. Schmitt was born Sept. 23, 1903, in Duncombe, Iowa, where she was reared and educated. She moved with her family to Nampa in November of 1919. She lived most of her life in the Treasure Valley except for short time spent in Silver City. She moved to Star in 1938 where she operated Kathryn's Cafe for a number of years. She then clerked in the ready to wear department of Van Englin's Department Store and retired in 1967.
She married Erwin (Casey) Schmitt on July 30, 1959, in Caldwell and the couple have since made their home on a ranch southwest of Caldwell.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Caldwell, the Good Sam Club and the Loyal Neighbors Club of Caldwell. he loved gardening and home canning.
She is survived by her husband of Caldwell; a daughter, Lois Plummer of Boise; three grandchildren, Steve Plummer of Coeur d'Alene, Connie Calhoun of Tacoma, Wash., and Pat Sexton of Star; seven great-grandchildren, Brett, Eric and Jason Plummer of Boise, Carly and Jesse Sexton of Star and Clint and Debbie Calhoun of Sumner, Wash.; one stepson, Gary Schmitt of Baker, Ore.; and two stepdaughters, Carol Pulz of Buxton, Ore., and LaDonna Leder of Spokane, Wash.; six step-grandchildren, Douglas and DeAnne Schmitt of Baker, Ore., Andi Leder of Spokane, Wash., Dale Hagland of Tigard, Ore., Karen Cutright of Forest Grove, Ore., and Teri Skjie of Cornelius, Ore.; six step-great-grandchildren, Erwin Hagland of Tigard, Ore., Eric and Renee Skjie of Cornelius, Ore., and Toby, Jessica and Timothy Cutright of Forest Grove, Ore.; three sisters, Ruth Shepherd of Nampa, Ann Rudisill of Boise and Elise Grebner of Humboldt, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and two step-grandsons.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Caldwell, for a wheelchair ramp at the church or to a favorite charity.
Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until service time.
