Erwin Schmitt
      Erwin C. "Casey" Schmitt, 78, of Caldwell, died Wednesday, June 13, 1990, in Strasburg, Ill., after attending a Schmitt family reunion.
      Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Pastor David Quail of Grace Lutheran Church, Caldwell, will officiate. Burial will follow in Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. The casket will be closed during services.
      Mr. Schmitt was born Sept. 8, 1911, at Strasburg, Ill., a son of Jacob and Margaret Kull Schmitt. The family moved to Canada in 1915, and to Idaho in 1926. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1929, and attended the University of Idaho for a year. He married Edna Acuff in 1934, and they were later divorced. He operated a service station and bulk delivery service in Nampa for several years and during World War II worked in the Bremerton navy yard. He worked for various implement companies in Klamath Falls and Portland, Ore. In 1957, he returned to Caldwell and farmed until his retirement in 1989. He married Kathryn Zabel Shepard in 1959.
      Survivors include two daughters, Carol Pultz of Buxton, Ore., and LaDonna Leder of Spokane, Wash.; a son, Gary Schmitt of Spokane; a brother, Lloyd E. Schmitt of Caldwell; three sisters, Fern Tiegs of Nampa and Lorene Burback and Aileen Easteppe, both of Caldwell; grandchildren, Karen Cutright of Veronia, Ore., Terry Skjie of Hillsboro, Ore., Dale Hagelin of Parkway, Ore., Andrea Leder of Spokane, Douglas Schmitt of Portland and DeAne Schmitt of Baker City, Ore.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn in 1984; a sister, Mabel Mai, in 1987; and two grandchildren, Dwayne E. Derrick Jr. in 1965 and Eric Leder in 1981.
