Anne had the desire to act as a small girl when she played the part of one of the ugly sisters in "Cinderella." She attended Swathmore College for two years then transferred to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She had a small part in the Broadway play, "Witness for the Prosecution." The play toured for six months. While in Los Angeles she met Dr. Bernard McDonald. They married in Mexico City on December 28, 1957. They honeymooned in Jamaica flying via Cuba. They settled in Manhattan Beach, California. Their son Brian was born in October 1958.

When Dr. McDonald went to Europe to work and study in Paris in September 1959, Anne elected to stay behind. She signed a contract with 20th Century Fox as Anne Benton. She was cast in the "Flaming Star" featuring Elvis Presley and Dolores Del Rio, directed by Don Siegel. When her husband returned from Europe in December 1960 she asked for a divorce. Sadly after this she was affected by Schizophrenia. Her acting career ended. It was a heartbreak for all concerned. Her mother and sister Mary watched over her for the rest of her life. Bernard and Anne's son Brian committed suicide in 1979
