Son of Stanley and Catherine (Rakauskas) Antanaitis.
Brother of Mary Kay.
He married Nellie Gray Wiggins on Aug. 1, 1945 and they shared 62 years together.
Father of Michael J., Judy and Daniel.

Jay graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago in 1941 and joined the Merchant Marines for service in the North Atlantic in 1942. After his ship nearly sank in the icy waters off Iceland in 1942, Jay transferred to the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served honorably until his discharge in Oct. 1945. During his naval service, he was deployed to the Mediterranean on an LST carrying troops, supplies, and armaments between North Africa and France and Italy. At one point shortly after D-Day, Jay suffered a shrapnel wound to his abdomen, a metal souvenir he carried in his liver for the remainder of his life.
