He was a lifelong resident of Marietta, born in the old Marietta Hospital on May 23, 1939. He attended Marietta Schools and graduated from Marietta High School in 1957. He received his MD degree from Emory University in 1966 and completed his residency in OB-GYN there in 1970. Following his residency, he served as a Medical Officer in the US Air Force for 2 years and then returned to Marietta to begin his OB-GYN practice. He practiced at Cobb General Hospital for 10 years then completed his career at Kennestone Hospital, retiring in 2009. He was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was chairman of the OB-GYN Department at Kennestone from 1988-1989. He delivered over 5,000 babies during his career and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marietta.
He is survived by his daughter Dana Hagood White and her husband Jeff of Marietta; sister Mary Hagood Turner and her husband Bill of St. Simons; brother Dr. M. Felton Hagood and his wife Linda of Marietta; his companion Michalynn "Mikie" Hornbeck of Powder Springs; grandson Walker Hagood White; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Murl and Mary Evelyn Hagood and his wife Dana Cain Hagood.
