The Evening Star (Washington D.C.) June 18, 1897 The vicinity of brookland was greatly shocked yesterday by the news of the sudden death of Mr. Charles Stewart of 4th Street, near the South Brookland Road. It appears that when his daughter Alberta left for school yesterday morning she called "good-bye" to her father, who was in bed, as he had not been well for the past few days, but receiving no reply, she though he was asleep, and left the house without disturbing him. When she returned in the afternoon she discovered he was dead, and from the hurried examination of the physician later in the evening, it was found that he must have died during the night. Dr. Andrew Stewart of Washington, nephew of the deceased, and Dr. Hood of O Street, the family physician, were immediately summoned. The body was taken to Gawlers undertaking establishment, from which the funeral will take place. A telegram was at once sent to Mr. Stewart's brother in Pennsylvania. who will probably arrive today. Alberta was taken last evening tothe home of her cousin Dr.Andrew Stewart 1420 Q Street where she will remain indefinitely.
