Cleo was a lifelong resident of Boone County, living in Madrid for the last 52 years. He was a decorated WWII veteran. During his life he owned and operated several automotive businesses and worked as a diesel mechanic at the Iowa DOT in Ames for almost 17 years, until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Dorothy, spending time with his family and pursuing a full-time hobby of collecting and working with rocks.
Cleo was a member of the Madrid Volunteer fire department for over 30 years and served as Chief from 1961 to 1970. He served on his church and city councils and helped establish the auto club "The Pacers" in the mid-50's.
He will be greatly missed by those he left behind four daughters and their husbands, Kathy (John) Kent, Trish (George) Patrick, Becky (Jeff) Ahrens-Adams and Jill (Mike) McDermott; a sister, Betty (Henry) Pies; a sister-in-law, Lovey (Gene) Mondt; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; and infant son, David.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be distributed to Cleo's favorite charities.

Cleo was a US Army Veteran of WWII who Served in the 94th Infantry Division with Company F of the 302 Infantry Regiment in Northern France, Ardennes, Germany, Luxembourg, and Czechoslovakia as part of Patton's Third Army.
