Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy for 4 years and the US Air Force 16 years. At the time of his retirement, Jim was an NCO stationed at Andrews AFB, Annapolis, MD, serving as the Maintenance Planner for the Presidential Aircraft Squadron. After retirement from the military, Jim and his family moved to the farm on Bethel Ridge Road in Ohio where he was briefly employed by the US Postal Service. He was then recruited and employed by the US Department of Energy and served for 20 years as a Supervisor with Goodyear Atomic/Martin Marietta/Lockhead Martin/U.S.E.C. in Piketon, OH. He attended the First Baptist Church of Lorida, FL.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lily (Sweeney) Wilburn; daughters, Terri Wilburn, Debbie Lewis (Dan) and Karen Puckett (Mark). Sons, Kenneth Wilkerson, Dale Wilkerson (Susan), Allen Wilkerson (Penny), Jimmy Wilburn (Courtney); 14 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Pennington, Ruth Walters (Larry), Wanda Grueser, and Barb Pantz; brothers, Carl Wilburn (Betty), and Don Qualls (Linda).
Jim is preceded in death his father, Orville Qualls; mother and stepfather, Ethel (Osborne) and Drew Wilburn; an infant son, Dwayne; sister, Doris Hickman; brother, Robert 'Bob' Wilburn, and infant twin brother and sister, Clarence Ray and Lilly Mae Qualls.
Funeral services are under the direction of Cox-Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio with Pastor Wayne Godwin officiating. Graveside military services will he performed by the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard at Bethel Ridge Cemetery not far from the family farm.
