Private, Company D, 28th Regiment Georgia Infantry CSA

Son of James and Elizabeth Moore King

William King fought in Civil War and he was sent home with small pox to die in 1863. They stopped him outside, burned all his clothes, he lived only a short time. Is buried in Wauluska (Waleska), Ga. in the old "Briar Patch Cemetary," now known as Dogwood Hills Cemetary among a long line of little rock markers put there by loved ones. His family placed a thin stone there and marked it: William King or Wm. King. It was no doubt put there during the Civil War since de died 1863.

We, Oscar, Sigrid, Howard and Bettie, Clyde and me poured a little slab around that little stone so it would continue to stand - and wrote on it: William King Born about 1830 - died 1863.

I hope some day we could get a well made marker to replace this. I imagine his wife Cynthia was buried next to him and she probably didn't live to be very old as she was a sickly person.
