Mr. Hird was born Dec. 25, 1910, in Schuyler County. Mo., to Elbert and Zella White Hird. He grew up in Missouri and on Oct. 16, 1949, he married Opel Jackson in Centerville. In 1950, they moved from Lancaster, Mo., to Valeria, Ia. In 1961, they moved to Colo and then Zearing. He worked at Don Peck Truck and Corn Shelling from 1962 until 1974 and then at the State Center Creamery and Zearing Cheese Factory. He retired in 1978.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Kieal) BonSchmidt, McCallsburg, Shirley (Mrs. Marlin) Wiebold, Council Bluffs and Betty Horton,- Lidonia, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, James.
