WALNUT - Services for Carl Edward Wampler Sr., 78, a former resident and businessman in Walnut, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church here. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery.

Wampler died Monday in a hospital in San Jose, Calif. He had been ill several weeks.

He was born on May 30, 1896, in Walnut and grew to manhood in the area. He and Gladys Taylor were married on Dec. 31, 1921, in Weir.

They operated a general store here until moving to Tulsa in 1926, going from there to the bay area of San Francisco in 1952. He was employed as a mechanic at the Naval Air Station at Alameda.

Survivors include Mrs. Wampler, of the home; three sons, Reuel of Hamilton, Kan., Carl Jr. of Boise, Ida. and Gale of San Jose; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy DeLatorre of Lake Worth, Fla.; and one brother, Don, of Tulsa. One sister, Anna, is deceased.

Wampler was a member of the Walnut church and a veteran of World War I.

Local arrangements for the service were in charge of the Pierce Funeral Home of Erie.
