Retired Podiatrist Dr. A. John Jerome, 84, of 205 Randall Drive died the morning of Aug. 10, 2004, in his home.
Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Tripi, Messina, Italy, he was a son of the late Frank and Marie Maiorana Giannone.
He was first married to the former Wanda M. Smialowski for 35 years. She died Oct. 1, 1983.
He then married Kathryn Gnagey Wethli on June 12, 1993. She survives.
Dr. Jerome was a 1938 graduate of New Castle High School and a graduate of the Temple University School of Podiatry.
A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 512 and 4th Degree Villa Maria Assembly of the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Jerome was a former member of Duca Degli Abruzzi, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Wolves Club Den #1.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing, and shot two holes in one in his lifetime. He also enjoyed gardening.
Dr. Jerome was a member of St. Camillus Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Frank Colucci of New Castle, and Carol and Dan Spicer of Austintown; two step-daughters, Cara Hill of Crestwood, Ky., and Krista Wethli of Lewisville, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence F. and Mary Beth Jerome of Middletown, Md.; two stepsons and step-daughters-in-law, Craig and Beth Wethli, and Kirk and Sondra Wethli, all of New Castle; a brother, James Giannone of New Castle; two sisters, Margaret Dietrich of New Castle and Rose Liss of Ellwood City; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leslie Colucci Sparano, and a sister, Ann Barberio.
