Born in Brooklyn, NY October 5, 1932, he was a son of the late Anufry and Sophia Barzyz Ankuta. He was a 1956 graduate of Clemson College and was very proud of having played on the Tigers football team under Coach Frank Howard his entire college career. Coach Ankuta began his teaching career at Southside Junior High School in 1958 and at the time of his retirement was the school's Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.
A devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather, he was very involved in their lives and activities.
A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, he was also a member of The Knights of Columbus.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters; Vanessa and husband, Tom Taylor, Jr. of Greenwood and Allison and husband Dan Broomall of Charleston. two sisters; Dorothy A. Ezzo of Greenwood and Irene A. Figurski of Lexington. four grandchildren; Thomas Taylor, III, Kathryn Taylor, Alaina Broomall and Sophia Broomall. A sister-in-law, Betty Ann Derrick and her husband Larry of Greenwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church
with Rev. Father Timothy Tebalt officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm Monday with visitation to follow until 7:00 pm.
The family is at the home in Centre Court.
The family request that flowers be omitted and that memorial be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Building Fund, 915 Mathis Road, Greenwood, SC 29649.
