Mildred was born on July 26, 1922 on her family’s dairy farm in Brainerd, Minnesota to David and Emma (Hagelin) Sandberg.

Upon completion of high school, Millie followed her passion and earned a teaching certificate from St. Cloud State in July 1942. Millie began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse.

Mildred married Clarence Dailey on December 5, 1942. They were blessed with five children (Lew, Diane, Sandra, Gerald, and Gail) and 53 years of marriage. Life held many adventures for Millie and her husband including running a photography studio in Staples and cabin rentals on their White Sand Lake property. Mildred went on to teach special education in the Brainerd School District for 20 years before retiring in June of 1987.

Millie loved the outdoors, White Sand Lake, camping, playing board games and cards with her sister and grandchildren, jig-saw puzzles, poetry, her church, and her flower beds. Millie became a master gardener. She founded Brainerd’s school chess club. Millie loved traveling with her sister, Bernice. Faith and family were always central in Millie’s life.
