Mr. Richard Lee McBrayer, age 77 of Hampton, Georgia passed away June 20, 2015. He was born in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Willard Alsom and Frances Hand McBrayer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby McBrayer. Richard served his country in the Georgia National Guard and was retired from the FAA. He was an active member of the Hampton United Methodist Church where he was Lay Leader in 2001, Chairman of Trustees six times, last being in 2005, Board of Trustees numerous times, Chairman of Finance Committee, several years in the 1970’s and 1980’s, Sunday School Superintendent, first in the 1960’s then in 2004 – 2007, Head Usher in 1961- 1963 and again from 2003 – 2005, Chairman, Parsonage Committee in 1986, Building Committee Chairman (Charlie Green Wing) 1997 – 1998, and Finance Chairman Building Committee 1997 – 1998. He was the President of the Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties, Inc., Board member of the City Ethics Committee, City of Hampton Historian, Board of Directors of Hampton Museum, was inducted into the Henry County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and was on the Ola A’s Baseball Team. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Kathryn Moore McBrayer of Hampton; sons, Mark (Coleen) McBrayer of Locust Grove and Jim (Tonya) McBrayer of McDonough; grandchildren, Mary Kay McBrayer, Justin Calalay, Hannah Chiasson, Katlyn McBrayer (Noah) Foulks, Jake McBrayer, Morgan Bates and Taylor Bates; sister in law, Becky McBrayer; nephews, Keith (Susan) McBrayer and Clark (Nadine) McBrayer; numerous great nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 12:00 pm from the Hampton United Methodist Church. Rev. Brent White will officiate. Friends may visit the family Wednesday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm prior to the service. A Celebration will continue in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
