Marie C. Kliegel, age 85, of 45121 162nd St., Watertown, SD, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 9, 2002 at the De Paul Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father John Lantsberger officiating. Organist will be Donna Sheehan and song leader will be LeeAnn Maag. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 5:30 p.m. at the Wight and Fox Funeral chapel, and on Thursday prior to services at the church. Relatives are requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 9:15 a.m.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her friends and neighbors. Active pallbearers will be Dan Henrichs, Dan Meseberg, Todd and Bill Pieper, Ronnie Mumm and Harry LaQua.
Marie C. Kliegel, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Rossow) Kliegel was born on January 28, 1917 in Downing, Wisconsin. She moved with her parents to a farm in Wadena, Minnesota and attended country school in Wadena. At the age of 21, she moved with her family to a farm 12 miles northwest of Watertown, South Dakota. Marie spent two winters in St. Paul, Minnesota working in the Armour Packing Plant. Marie continued to live on the family farm until her death, spending the last few winters in St. Louis, Missouri with her daughter. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, raising guineas and peacocks, and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Lawrence Kliegel.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kliegel of St. Louis, MO; four nephews, Gary, Greg, Gordon, and Glen Kliegel of Watertown, SD; her niece Gwen Kliegel of Watertown, SD; and her cousins.
