RAYMOND JEBAVY

BOY CRUSHED TO DEATH
An accident that shocked the entire community, occurred last Wednesday
evening, at about five o'clock, when Raymond, the nine year old son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Jebavy, was crushed to death under the wheels of a
heavy steam roller. The accident happened on Adams street in front of
the boys home. The lad was riding a bicycle and feel(sic) in front of
the roller as it was moving down the street. The heavy roller passed
over a portion of his body and crushed out his life almost instantly.
The terrible accident was witnessed by the father of the boy and several
others who were near where the boy was killed. The engineer of the roller
could not see the lad from his seat on the roller, but felt the shock of
the roller passing over the body and did not know what happened until
several persons ran screaming towards the roller. The body of the boy was
picked up and carried into his home by Frank Bonn, a neighbor. The mother
upon hearing the news became hysterical.
The roller is the property of the Schuette Construction Company and is
being used in the work of macadamizing of the streets. The roller
weighs ten tons. The engineer of the roller was in no way to blame for
the accident and was relieved of all blame by the verdict of the
coroner's jury which held an inquest, Friday morning. that portion of
the street that was being rolled was closed to traffic and was shut off
by ropes that were stretched across the crossings. It is said that
people living along the street had been warned not to allow their
children to play on the street while work on the same was progressing.

JEBAVY news article

Little 8 year old Raymond Jebavy came near being drowned Sunday. He in company with little boys were playing on the ice, striking thin ice, he went down. In the excitement some of the larger boys called for help and left Raymond struggle. His little brother, six year old Alfred, possessed presence of mind enough to grab his brother and wonderfully enough he pulled him out before other help came.
