Former Glenvil resident Lester Carl Mohling, 80, of Grand Island Veterans Home died Monday, June 17, 2002, at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System in Grand Island.
Services were Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil with the Revs. Bonnie and Les Larsen officiating. Burial with military rites by Glenvil American Legion Post No. 26 will be in Glenvil Cemetery. Visitation at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mr. Mohling was born Dec. 19, 1921, to Herman A. and Emma B. (Hagemeister) Mohling on the family farm north of Hastings. He attended rural District 33 and Hastings Senior High School. He attended vocational technical school in Bellevue. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-46 and during the Korean War from 1950-53. On June 11, 1950, he married Verna R. Wiese at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. He joined the Nebraska Army National Guard and retired in 1981 with 32 years of service. He was a carpenter and did utilities maintenance for the Village of Glenvil for 20 years. His wife preceded him in death.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil. He aso was a member of Eagles No. 592 in Hastings and AARP, a life member of American Legion Post No. 26 in Glenvil and a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Commercial Travelers.
Survivors are one son, Gary of Glenvil; three daughters, Vanessa L. Johnson of Cheyenne, Wyo., Barbara A. Kruger of Minitare and Theresa J. Mahoney of Glenvil; one brother, Wesley W. of Glenvil ; one sister, Lisetta Kent of Seward; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or American Legion Post No. 26, both in Glenvil.
