He was the only son of Lambert and Lucinda Stump Taylor, and had two sisters, Maria Taylor Pyle and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Bales. Though his marker states his middle initial was T., family reports lists his middle name as Lambert, after his father. He married Lillie A. Pearman September 12, 1900 in Vermillion County, Indiana. They had one son, Samuel Edwin Taylor. He was an uncle to Ernie Pyle. He loved spending the summer months with his grandson, Waldon. Every Sunday they would faithfully walk to church about 5 miles to what is now Salem Methodist Church. He was a farmer for most of his life. He had a history of strokes.
