Emma Schroeder, daughter of John C. and Mary Steltzer Schroeder, was born in Two Rivers, Wise, on September 13, 1896. At the age of eight years she moved with her parents to Melvin, Iowa where she attended rural school and later completed nurses training at Sioux City, Iowa. She was later employed by Dr. Fillenworth of Melvin for four years before and during World War I.

On January 21, 1921 she was united in marriage to Joseph Foley of Melvin, at Sanborn, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed near Melvin and operated the Locker Plant at Melvin. In 1950 they moved to Windom, Minn. Her husband, Joseph preceded her in death in 1954 and she continued to make her home in Windom until 1968 when she moved to Sanborn, Iowa.

In 1976 she was united in marriage to Albert Geister of Sanborn. They made their home in Sanborn. He preceded her in death in 1979. She continued to make her home in Sanborn until October of 1981 when she entered the Spirit Lake Nursing Home of Spirit Lake, Iowa where she lived until the time of her death on April 30, 1982 at the age of 85 years, seven months and 17 days. She was a member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church of Sanbom and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Joseph and Albert, two brothers, John and Herbert, one sister, Stella Geesman, a son, Leo, and a daughter, Mary who died shortly after birth, and a son, Edward Paul Foley.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Elaine) Bixenman of Milford, Iowa, one son, Joseph, of Big Sandy, Montana, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
