He was born May 18, 1926 in Greensburg, a son of the late William and Sarah Haines Landis.
Prior to retirement he was an engineer for Conrail. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. He was a member of Brush Creek United Church of Christ, American Legion Post #344 of Jeannette and he loved to golf, bowl and travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Marie Rupp Landis, a sister, Beatrice Dean and a niece Jan Dean. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Stineman and her husband Robert of Leola, and Denise DeFrancesco of Greensburg, five grandchildren; Doug Stineman, Chris Stineman and his wife Michelle, Jessica DeFrancesco, Katrina DeFrancesco and Carissa DeFrancesco, five great-grandchildren including Genevieve and Luke, two sisters-in-law, Dee Miller of Jeannette and Jan Rupp of Greensburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette. The Jeannette Combined Veterans will hold services at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Brush Creek United Church of Christ, Irwin. Interment with military honors will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery, Irwin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
