Nancy Dee Landrum was the oldest of ten children born to Nancy Catherine Dingle and Reuben Landram. (While the vowel change in the name appears to be a typo, all of her original family spelled it with an "a" while her documentation always shows a "u".)

Nancy became the third wife of John Gaines Speak on 5 July 1857 in Macon County, Missouri. Over the course of their marriage while living in Putnam County, she bore him 11 children; Ann, Alfred Tobin, Fannie Lou, Ella D, Edward, Ida Jane, Bettie, Mary Neff, John David, Emma, and Pearl Carter.

After John passed in 1893, Nancy took turns living with various children and their families.

Nancy passed away after a suffering a lingering illness for four months. In death she joined her parents, her husband, and her son Alfred. Left to mourn her were ten children, two step-children, and many grandchildren.

(Note from Elsetta Mae; Missouri Death Certificate #29186 states that Nancy was born in Kentucky. Her father was J. Landrum. She died in Liberty, Putnam, Missouri.)
