James T. "Hammer" Hammerling, 72, of Kiel died Friday morning June 26, 2015 at Calumet Medical Center after a 17 year battle with cancer. He was born April 16, 1943 in Milwaukee, son of the late Oswald & Theodora (Dryzinski) Hammerling. Jim attended Milwaukee Riverside High School.On July 9, 1962 he was united in marriage to Joyce Minor, the couple celebrated nearly 53 years together.Jim had been employed with Mid States Shoe Co., Johnson Controls & Perlick Brass all of Milwaukee before moving to the Kiel area where he worked for Stoelting Mfg, Precision Controls and Tecumseh Products until his illness caused him to retire in 1998.

Jim was also very proud to have operated Hammer's Bar from 1988 until 1995 and was a driver for Stardust Limousine Service during that time as well.He was a member of the Kiel Redmen, Kiel Jaycees and the Tavern League. He was also very active in pool, dart, bean bag and bowling leagues for many years. Jim's greatest joy and his #1 priority was the time he would spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his free time he also enjoyed hunting with his son-in-laws and friends as well as fishing, woodworking and doing arts and crafts.

Survivors include his wife of more than 52 years, Joyce, three daughters; Jane (Dale) Peters, Greenbush, Janice (Bobby) Wolf, Kiel, Jennie (Tim) Bornemann, New Holstein. 11 grandsons & 2 granddaughters, 7 great grandsons and 7 great grandaughters. Jim is further survived by his sister; Vera Graves, Kiel along with his in-laws; Victoria (Lenny) Weisheim, Kiel, Russell (Diane) Minor, Athelstane, WI, Stanley Minor, Wagner, WI, Francis (Diane) Minor, Slinger.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law; LaVerne & Elvira (Dickrell) Minor, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Burial will follow in the Kiel City Cemetery.
