17-yr. old Joseph Kratcha drowned last Sat. while swimming. He was a
good swimmer and may have suffered cramps. His companions thought he
had gotten out of the water and only missed him after awhile. Some
boys found his body next morning.

ANOTHER CASE OF DROWNING
Joseph Kratcha(sic) Meets Death While in Bathing Last Saturday Evening
Last Saturday evening Joseph Kratcha, a boy 17 years of age, son of Mr.
and Mrs.
J. Kratcha, of this city, met his death while in bathing, along with
several
companions. Young Kratcha went in swimming off a boom up near the Two
Rivers
Manufacturing Company's saw mill shortly after supper. He and his
companions
had finished their swim and had climbed upon the boom to dress
themselves but
young Kratcha changed his mind and resolved to have one more plunge before
putting on his clothes. His companions began dressing themselves but
soon noticed
that something was the matter with him - that in fact he was drowning.
Two of them
jumped in to rescue him and though they reached him he slipped from
their grasp
and went down to rise no more. Immediate search was renewed and Thos.
Wright, the
diver, was engaged for the purpose, but owning to the fact that the
bottom of the
river is so covered with sunken logs and the water not being clear, his
search was
in vain. On Monday morning, however, his body was found floating near
where he was
last seen and was taken in charge by the authorities. His funeral took
place from
St. Luke's Church this morning.
