US Presidential Advisor, Author, Television Personality. He went from serving as an aid during the Administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson to becoming an expert political analyst and bestselling author. He will be best remembered by TV audiences for hosting the weekly PBS series "Think Tank with Ben Wattenberg" (1984 to 2010) and became the face for the "Neoconservatism" movement. Born Joseph Ben Zion Wattenberg to Jewish parents, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Hobart College in New York and served a stint with the United States Air Force. Following his service, he launched his writing career initially on the subject of seas, prior to gravitating to politics. His first book "This U.S.A." (1965) which painted a positive picture of society was scorned by critics for not addressing the issues of the struggles for Civil Rights and the Vietnam War. The book captured President Johnson's attention and after a meeting at the White House, Wattenberg was brought into the inner circle of the president and served as a speech writer and confidant. He co-wrote "The Real Majority" (1970) which became a bestseller as it revealed a detailed analysis of the American voter. Furthermore, the book brought to light fractions within the Democratic Party and created the categories moderate, conservative and progressive. Among his other books include "Against All Enemies" (1977), "The Good News Is the Bad News Is Wrong" (1984), "The Birth Dearth" (1987) and "Values Matter Most" (1995).
