Charles Kumbalek, 88, former Two Rivers police chief, died Wednesday evening
at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank Bonk, 1017 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc,
with whom he had resided a number of years.
Mr. Kumbalek was a member of one of Two Rivers earliest families and retired
18 years ago from active work after serving as a stationary engineer for many
years at Two Rivers.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Klein & Stangel Inc.,
Funeral Home, Two Rivers, and at 9 a.m. with a solemn requiem high Mass at St.
Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Edward A. Radey, pastor of Holy
Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc, will serve as celebrant, the Rev. Adolph
Dolezal will be the deacon and the Rev. John McLaughlin will be the sub-deacon.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Kumbalek was born in Two Rivers June 20, 1868, son of the late Matthew and
Barbara Kumbalek. When he was a child the family brought him to Algoma where
he resided until he was 18 when he returned to Two Rivers. He married the
former Mary Schetler at Two Rivers in 1892. She died in 1947. When he was a
young man (can't read next line and a half) several years, and ???? became
employed as a stationary engineer at the old Mann Brothers Pail Factory at
Two Rivers. For a number of years until his retirement in 1944 he served as
a stationary engineer at Plant No. 4 of the Aluminum Goods Mfg. Co. at Two
Rivers.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society and the St. Joseph Society.
Besides his daughter he leaves two sons, John of St. Petersburg, Fla., and
Aloysius of Two Rivers and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2(?) p.m. Friday where the Rosary
will be recited at 8 pm. Friday.
