CATHERINE JESSIE TATARYN, R.N. (nee AIME) With great sadness we announce the passing of Catherine Tataryn, aged 84 years at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her boys . Catherine passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 while surrounded by Michael, her husband of 63 years, as well as her loving family. Left to cherish her memory along with husband Mike, are sons, Stewart (Donna) and Raymond (Frances); daughters, Marie (Brian) and Nancy (Bob). She will also be missed by her sister Beth, brothers, Harry and Dave, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and an extended family both here in Canada and in England. Catherine was predeceased by her parents, William and Janet Aime; brothers, Maurice, Robert, and Edward. Catherine was born in Selkirk on June 6, 1921 and was raised in Clandeboye. In 1942, she graduated the nursing program at the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg. She married Mike in 1943 just in time to see him leave for the European front during The Second World War and spent the next two years awaiting his return, while working as a caregiver both in Winnipeg and Selkirk. Upon his return, they bought a home and started a family in Selkirk. Catherine continued nursing for many years. She retired, while holding the position of Director of Nursing at the Middlechurch Home in 1972. As well as raising a family and her nursing career, Catherine was active in Christ Church, The Gordon Howard Centre, P.E.O. Chapter S, the Children's Hospital Alumni, and was a supporter of Nova House Women's Shelter. Catherine was a kind and compassionate person who welcomed everyone into her home with a smile and hug. She and Mike enjoyed travelling to many different countries over the years and made many long lasting friends everywhere they went. A special thank you to Dr. Fuchs and the nursing staff at the Selkirk General for the care and support given to Catherine and the family over the past months. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20 at Christ Church, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Interment to follow at the St. Clements Cemetery.
