Robert Kid was born Aug. 7, 1760-65 at Scone, near Edinburg, Scotland. Robert was married to Sarah Ann Charlton. (A biography lists birth as 1760 and cemetery lists 1765.) Some of their children were: Louise, Robert Charlton, James Proctor, Jane, Malcolm Durmett, Sarah Charlton, William Lang, and Henry Blair.

Dr. Louis Richard Brown, son of Paul and Maria (Woodring) Brown, was born in North Whitehall township, Northampton county, Pennsylvania, November 17, 1839; and since 1868 has been practicing medicine in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He married in July, 1864, Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Charlton and Rebecca (Broome) Kid; (see Kid). Children: Louise Mary, died November 14, 1890; Sidney Paul, died June 8, 1891; Stanley Robert, married Minnie Constance Keppler; Alice Eugenia; Belle Broome, married David Higgins Townley.

(I) Robert Kid, the founder of the family, was born in Scone, near Edinburg, Scotland, August 7, 1760, and died in Burlington, New Jersey, August 17, 1836. He emigrated to America about 1792 and settled in Philadelphia, where he was Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Charlton, whose mother was of noble birth, and was born in Dublin, Ireland, December 22, 1778.

(II) Robert Charlton, son of Robert and Sarah (Charlton) Kid, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, February 21, 1802 and died there in 1884. He married Rebecca, daughter of William and Mary (Welles) Broome, who was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1807 and died in 1847. Her father was born in England and came to America in 1798, and her mother, born in England, about 1765, died in 1854.

(III) Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Charlton and Rebecca (Broome) Kid, was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. She married in July, 1864, Louis Richard, son of Paul and Maria (Woodring) Brown, referred to above.

Robert died on Aug. 17, 1836 at Burlington, NJ. Robert was buried at the St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery. His wife Sarah is buried with him. The cemetery record lists wife died 1811, possibly a 1st wife or error?

In the name of God Amen, I Robert Kid of the City of Burlington, State of New Jersey, late of Philadelphia being in health of body and of sound mind memory and understanding do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following-
First; It is my Will that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate, as soon as convenient after my decease.
Second; I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah A Kid, for and during the Term of her natural life, all my real estate in the City of Burlington and also I give and bequeath unto her absolutely all of my household furniture and personal estate in Burlington or elsewhere.
Third; It is my Will and I do hereby direct that my Real estate shall not be sold during the life of my beloved Wife, but that the rents and income thereof shall be paid to my executrix herein after named and after deducting taxes, the expense of necessary repairs, and all interest money, on bonds or mortgages the net income shall be divided into ten shares, three of which to belong to my beloved wife and the remaining seven shares to be paid in equal parts half yearly to my surviving children; and their heirs (except in the instances hereinafter specified; wherein payments are to be made to trustees; The children of a deceased child to take together the share of the parent.
Fourth; It is my Will and I do hereby give and devise my real estate after the decease of my beloved wife to my seven children; to wit, Louisa Ann Mitchell, Robert C Kid, Henry B Kid, Malcolm D Kid, Sarah Kid, Jane Kid, and William L Kid or the survivors of them their heirs and assigns forever in equal parts as tenants in common. The shares however of my three daughters, Louisa, Sarah, and Jane it is my Will and I do hereby invest in Trustees herein after named so that they shall respectively enjoy during life, only, the rents and income thereof, which shall not in any manner be liable for any debts contracted by them or any husband of either of them.
I appoint as Trustee of the shares of my daughter, Sarah and Jane my friend John H Barnes, and my son in law M P Mitchell, and as Trustee of the share of my daughter Louisa A Mitchell, I nominate and appoint John H Barnes and George T Chambers.
I also empower my said daughters notwithstanding said Trusts and whether single or married by any writing in the Nature of a Will, sealed and delivered in the presence of and attested by two credible Witnesses to devise and bequeath their said respective shares of my estate in as full and ample a manner as though they held the same absolutely, and in default of such writing or will the same shall descend and be enjoyed by their respective heirs.
None of my said children are to be charged for any advances received by them up to this date.
Lastly I do nominate and appoint my beloved Wife Sarah A Kid the Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other Wills by me made. In Witness Whereof I Robert Kid have this thirteenth day of March in the Year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and thirty three, set my hand and seal, signed Robt Kid (seal).
Signed, sealed, published, and declared by the above named Robert Kid, as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us, who at his request and in his presence, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto, signed Henry R Watson, W. Brown.
State of New Jersey, Burlington County, ss: William Brown one of the Witnesses to the within will being duly sworn according to law did depose and say that he saw Robert Kid the Testator herein named sign and seal the same and heard him publish pronounce and declare the within writing to be his last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof, the said Testator was of sound and deposing mind and memory, as far as this deponent knows and as he verily believes; and that Henry R Watson the other subscribing evidence, was present at the same time, and signed his name as a witness to the said Will together with this deponent in the presence of the said Testator, singed W. Brown.
Sworn at Mount Holly, County and State aforesaid the 7th day of Sept. A.D. 1836, before me Charles Kinsey, Surrogate.
State of New Jersey, Burlington County, ss, Sarah A Kid sole executrix in the annexed testament named being duly sworn according to law did depose and say that the annexed instrument contains the true last Will and Testament of Robert Kid the Testator, therein named, so far as she knows and as she verily believes, that she will well and truly perform the same by paying first the debts of the said deceased and then the legacies in the said Testament specified so far as the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased can thereunto extend, that she will make and exhibit into the Prerogative Office at Trenton a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased that have or shall come to her knowledge or possession or to the possession of any other person or persons for her use, and render a just and true account when thereunto lawfully required.
Sworn the 7th day of Sept A.D. 1836 at Mount Holly county, aforesaid, before me, Charles Kinsey, Surrogate, signed S. A. Kid.
