Samuel was born in Virginia between 1794 - 1796 and died in Montgomery County, Missouri 1870 - 1876. He married Mary Rhinehart 29 March 1818 in Tazewell County, Virginia. They were the parents of thirteen children. What was unusual for that time was that all thirteen survived to adulthood. They all married and produced a total of 110 grandchildren.

Besides the ten children with memorials who are now attached to Polly and Samuel there were three more:

Nancy Dillion born about 1824 and died after 1900. She married John Shrader about 1842. They had twelve children.

Hugh Johnson Dillion was born 17 October 1827 and died about 1899. He married Martha Fletcher 5 February 1852. They were the parents of ten children.

Samuel W. Dillion was born 23 September 1830. He married Temperance Dillion, daughter of Thomas J. Dillion and Margaret Ann Perdue, on 5 June 1851 in Mercer County, Virginia (now West Virginia). He enlisted as a private in Company H, 60th Virginia Infantry Regiment (Confederate) on 21 March 1862. He was wounded in the left breast during the battle at Frazier's Farm on 30 June 1862 and died on the 10 July. He was probably buried in a Confederate cemetery near Richmond, Virginia. He and Tempy had five daughters. She died 6 January 1886 in West Jefferson, Madison County, Ohio and was buried as Tempy Wright.
