Mrs. Julia D. Gaines
Mrs. Julia Devine Gaines, wife of the late H.N. Gaines, former state superintendent of public instruction, died Tuesday in Stuart, Fla.
Her death occurred on her ninetieth birthday. Her husband, formerly of Salina, was state superintendent from 1893 to 1895.
Mrs. Gaines is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Grace Menninger of 923 High, Mrs. Irene MacPherson of Stuart and Mrs. Bess Cowdrey of West Palm Beach; a son, Arthur B. Gaines of Stuart; a sister, Miss Elizabeth Devine of Stuart, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body will be brought to Topeka for burial.
