Sinah Melvina Mullins was the daughter of Thomas Mullins and Elizabeth Childrey. She was born in Rutherford County, Tennessee, prior to her family moving to Gibson County. On August 21, 1851, she married George Washington Akin in Gibson County, Tennessee.

George enlisted as a Union Soldier during the Civil War and was captured in Union City, Tennessee, in March of 1864. He was sent to Andersonville Prison Camp in Sumter County, Georgia, where he died of scurvy (scorbutus) on August 22, 1864. He is buried there.

Sinah continued to live in Gibson County until her death in 1908. Record of her death is found by papers declaring the cessation of her Widow's Pension that year due to her death. Her place of burial in unknown, but likely at the Shiloh Cemetery near Bradford.
