Mr. Oliver worked as a registered nurse for 30 years at the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Oliver; by four children, Amy Oliver of Cape Coral, Fla., J.W. Oliver Jr. of Ft. Myers, Fla., Nicholas Oliver, stationed in Bahrain, and Andrew Oliver, stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk; by a grandchild, Tristan Oliver of Okemos, Mich.; by two brothers, James (Louise) Chapman of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Jerry (Marie) Oliver of Watervilet, Mich.; by a sister, Elaine Oliver of Buchanan, Mich.; by Paul and Rosemary Martin of Marseilles; by 13 nieces and nephews; and by good friends, Ken Brock, Mick Buck, and Jim Albright.
