A funeral Mass for John A. Pondel 93, formerly of Des Plaines and Chicago, Illinois and Seminole, Florida was held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Julian Eymard Catholic Church, 601 Biesterfield Rd., Elk Grove Village.

Born April 3, 1906, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Adalbert and Katherine Pondel, he died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Alden Poplar Creek Center in Hoffman Estates. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.

He had been employed by the Chicago Transit Authority for 40 years before retiring.

Survivors include her sons, Albert (Gerrie) Pondel of Bartlett, Andrew (LaVerne) Pondel of Mundelein and Arthur (Barbara) Pondel of Franklin Park; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, William Pondel of LaGrange Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Stella, in 1998; four brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.

Masses would be appreciated.
