Born December 20, 1840, died January 14, 1916. Married Miss Octavia Hutchins the 8th day of December, 1860, daughter of Wylie B. and Sarah Ann Hutchens, he being the son of Stephen and Mary Clement, all of Big Creek.
Brother Jesse joined Sharon Church September 25, 1875, baptized by Rev. Fred Hawkins, Pastor of Sharon Church...His straight forward life and honesty won for him the place of County Treasurer of Forsyth County, which office he held for 18 years, serving the county to the very best of his ability.
At the age of 21, he joined the army, was a member of Co. I, 43rd & A. Regt., went into camp above Marietta at Big Shanty. Organized the 43rd Ga. Capt. Skid Harris elected Colonel Hiram P. Bell, Lt. Col. and H.C. Kellogg, Major; was with the Regt. all through the war---was with them through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and back through these states. At Battle of Resaca, Georgia, his brother, Lewis L. Clement, was killed and on down to Atlanta, Georgia, he lost his left foot, shot off above the ankle, and the right foot almost severed by the same ball. Was taken prisoner on the battlefield and carried back to Camp Douglass, where he was held a prisoner until the end of the war the next spring, his parents and family mourning him as dead. His home coming was like one risen from the dead...
