Jacob is the son of Jacob and Susan Dock Bigler. He is said to be buried at the Bethel Cemetery in Stony Point, Delaware Township in Mercer County. This was the site of a Methodist Church that was torn down in the 1880s.

He married Rebecca Showers and she moved to Venango County after his death.
